Echoes, as strong as ocean waves,\r\nas faint as ripples on a garden pond,\r\ncarried like a secret whispered in a crowded room;\r\nAnd ringing in my head they seemed\r\nlike quiet, scattered revelations\r\nsent to tease my solitary muses.\r\n\r\nI wondered at their portent as\r\none who gazes at the night sky\r\ntries with outstretched hand\r\nto touch a single, distant star;\r\nHope a reality, and contact\r\njust beyond her fingertip.\r\nAnd so with sigh and mental shrug\r\nfocus is channeled to what is\r\nmore familiar - as dim recognition\r\nis a cold replacement for the searing\r\nof bright recollection.\r\n\r\nNow the shadows reveal themselves,\r\nthe introductions not unlike those of\r\ndistant ancestors to future generations.\r\nEach face from the past somewhat mirrored\r\nby infant eyes and childish lips\r\nyearning to see and speak the knowledge\r\nthat would send my weighted soul\r\non a journey of expansive discovery.\r\n\r\nKnowledge wanes then swells,\r\nthe ebb of discovery drawing\r\nfuture to past and past to present;\r\nI am the vortex.\r\nYet though they pass through me\r\nin shallow breaths I cannot\r\nfathom the secret fears they leave\r\nin the dusted wake trailing\r\ntheir winding path.\r\n\r\nThe rising joys - a peak, a glimmer -\r\nconverge in my chest and flutter, pound,\r\nin a space long devoid of discerning.\r\nAn image rippled by falling tears\r\nthat glimmers and shatters\r\nthen collects the slivers and regroups,\r\ncatches my eye and causes my heart to leap.\r\nAn image of things to come,\r\nrevealed to me with the clarity\r\nof dawning light. Oh, I would\r\nclaim them for my own.\r\n\r\nTime will bring to me assurance.\r\nAssurance, hope; faith that wavers not.\r\nDreams will navigate me\r\nto that destination,\r\na subconscious journey, a passage\r\nfrom the demons' lair behind,\r\nfrom imagined worlds of bliss;\r\nfrom here, from there;\r\nfrom then, from now;\r\nto unite all certainties\r\nwith all possibilities;\r\nto thrive on the surprise each\r\nunlived moment holds for us;\r\nto acknowledge that by living\r\nwe accept the mysteries that lie ahead.\r\n\r\nTo you.<\/pre>\n
