Total deaths per war divided by the number of days the war lasted. The width of the “bars” represents the duration of the war. The area underneath the lines represent the total deaths. 2001 to 2003 is only Afghanistan (0.2 per day). 2003 onward is Afghanistan and Iraq combined (2.1 per day).
